Self-Betterment. Volume 1.1

grant2Welcome to Writer2Reader, your newsletter for prominent freelance writers. Each month our mission is to provide tools, resources, and tips to empower freelancers to create, create, create rewarding messages for readers and lucrative fulfilling careers for themselves.
A prominent writer respects their reputation and dedicates themselves to their craft. They understand the importance of being committed to their craft—setting goals that make them stretch, falling down and rising strong, always honing their skills, learning continuously, connecting with readers and writers consistently, and striving toward excellence.
Our first issue focuses on the “Self-Improvement” arena, producing pieces that reflect bettering oneself. “Life Sucks” is a personal account of Grant James, a young college screenwriter student recognizing his strengths in his search to improve himself. James gives his unadulterated reviews on Angels in Action and the story “Touch with Caution” in “Reflections.” “Accountability” offers an option for getting your goals completed quickly and successfully. “Writing Fitness” challenges writers to strengthen their writing muscle by becoming a habitual writer. The “Spotlight” book review of On Being Mom’s Mom by Loretta Veney gives insight into a moving memoir.
I would love to hear from you and possibly showcase your work. Let us know what you are working on and how we can best support you at Writer2Readers.

Happy Writing, Prominent Writers

Life Sucks?
by Grant James

Self-Betterment is a word that can have multiple meanings. To many it may represent one’s health being bettered by oneself. However, to others and myself, it paints an image of self-respect, happiness, and understanding.
The world we live in can be very brutal at times. When things are looking down, they keep getting worse. Life has no filter and at times we can lose sight of our full potential. Stress, sadness, and anger are the punishments this world has to offer. Every aspect of life can provide you with at least one of those feelings. School, work, politics, family, relationships, and many more.
Now, you may be asking yourself, “what does this kid know about self-betterment?” And you have the right to think that, because yes, I am only a 21 year-old college student, not having to pay a house bill, or worry about dependents. I stress but it may not be the same level as stress you are on. I am not trying to prove to you that my life sucks, but rather, I want to show you why my life is wonderful.
I love my mother very much. She is my world. She is an amazing mother to five, a loving wife, and a hard worker in society. We live in a beautiful home, surrounded by friendly neighbors. Life seems perfect for her, right? The simple answer is no. Just like all mothers of all races and social class, life hits them like a truck at times. Now, everyone knows that when a mother is stressed, mad, or sad, everyone else in the household is as well.
Now, stress if a funny thing. In fact, any type of negative feeling is a mysterious matter. They are almost like an incurable disease that can spread faster than chicken pox. Seeing a loved one stressed, sad, or angry can cause anyone around to reciprocate those same dreaded feelings. One can easily fall into sorrow and next thing you know, you are a few months behind in rent.
I don’t have a 3-Step Program or an online class on how to make your life better, but I do have something that can help and the answer is YOU. You are important, you are beautiful, and you have a reason to live. No matter what life places down at your feet, pick it up and keep moving. Be smart. Know when to take a break and have fun. Sing louder in the shower. Pet your dog longer. Hug your friends tighter. Love your loved ones even more. Cherish them, for they will cherish you.  Bring something to this world, it desperately needs it. WE NEED YOU. Don’t hate and be happy because life can only get better from here.

Angels in Action Chapter Reflection

Touch with Caution
by Grant James

As I read this chapter, I couldn’t help but think about what Andy has gone through in his life. There must have been something in his past experiences that required the attention of a female in order for him to cope with life. Perhaps, he has never felt that motherly love before, which can explain the monstrous outrage he committed.  However, he also seemed like a boy that understood his strength. He knew his situation, especially when he saw that he was short of his allowance due to his bad behavior. He took advantage of this opportunity to intimidate and Angels in Actionexpress his feelings, knowing there was nothing you can do.

I feel for children of this manner. A process in their upbringing made them who they are, and it is not entirely their fault. However, one must always take responsibility for their actions and that is something that can be explained, but it is a trait that requires self-discipline and understanding on one’s own heart. These types of stories only want to make me love my siblings and future children even more. I want to cherish them and make sure they are raised with respect and understanding. I want them to feel sadness and anger, but more importantly I want them to know the tools in how to fight against such feelings. It shapes them and helps them create an identity.

ACCOUNTABILITY
by Diane Williams
Are you on track with your 2016 goals?
If yes, congratulations!
If no, there is hope to finish your 2016 goals strong. However, you may need to change your thinking and change your actions to get the results you want. Achieving goals helps us to increase our confidence, celebrate our success, fulfill our happiness, and increase our service in society.
Some people are destined and other people are determined to achieve their goals. Nevertheless, I encourage you to get an accountability partner (AP) immediately. Together, both you and your partner can develop a sure-fire winning strategy that you will execute with confidence, speed, and sincerity to achieve your goals. You will clearly state your goal, outline your plan of execution, and define your date of completion.
On your path to manifest your goals, your AP will consult with you, giving you feedback, hearing what you say, and watching what you do. Your partner inspires and motivates you to say what you mean and do what you say.
Having to answer to another person for your actions keeps you out of the blame game while motivating you to stay on track with your goals.
The partner acknowledges and understands the urgency to finish goals. They consistently hold you accountable. They are very attentive, focusing on helping you complete your goals in the time-frame you set. They will question you, discuss with you, and coach you in order to keep you abreast on where you are currently and help you gain clarity on exactly where you want to be at your desired target date.
Your accountability partner keeps the focus on you, keeping you out of the blame game. If you should ever get stuck not executing your action plan, your partner encourages you to move forward. They constantly remind you that you are the one responsible for why you have or have not completed the action you said you would.
An accountability partner is an invaluable connection, wanting you to grow, achieve, and be the successful person you believe yourself to be. They can help you be your authentic self by providing invaluable feedback, keeping you responsible, and owning the decisions that ultimately create your outcome.
