Self-Betterment. Volume 1.1
Welcome to Writer2Reader, your newsletter for prominent freelance writers. Each month our mission is to provide tools, resources, and tips to empower freelancers to create, create, create rewarding messages for readers and lucrative fulfilling careers for themselves.
A prominent writer respects their reputation and dedicates themselves to their craft. They understand the importance of being committed to their craft—setting goals that make them stretch, falling down and rising strong, always honing their skills, learning continuously, connecting with readers and writers consistently, and striving toward excellence.
Our first issue focuses on the “Self-Improvement” arena, producing pieces that reflect bettering oneself. “Life Sucks” is a personal account of Grant James, a young college screenwriter student recognizing his strengths in his search to improve himself. James gives his unadulterated reviews on Angels in Action and the story “Touch with Caution” in “Reflections.” “Accountability” offers an option for getting your goals completed quickly and successfully. “Writing Fitness” challenges writers to strengthen their writing muscle by becoming a habitual writer. The “Spotlight” book review of On Being Mom’s Mom by Loretta Veney gives insight into a moving memoir.
I would love to hear from you and possibly showcase your work. Let us know what you are working on and how we can best support you at Writer2Readers.
Happy Writing, Prominent Writers

Life Sucks?
by Grant James
Self-Betterment is a word that can have multiple meanings. To many it may represent one’s health being bettered by oneself. However, to others and myself, it paints an image of self-respect, happiness, and understanding.
The world we live in can be very brutal at times. When things are looking down, they keep getting worse. Life has no filter and at times we can lose sight of our full potential. Stress, sadness, and anger are the punishments this world has to offer. Every aspect of life can provide you with at least one of those feelings. School, work, politics, family, relationships, and many more.
Now, you may be asking yourself, “what does this kid know about self-betterment?” And you have the right to think that, because yes, I am only a 21 year-old college student, not having to pay a house bill, or worry about dependents. I stress but it may not be the same level as stress you are on. I am not trying to prove to you that my life sucks, but rather, I want to show you why my life is wonderful.
I love my mother very much. She is my world. She is an amazing mother to five, a loving wife, and a hard worker in society. We live in a beautiful home, surrounded by friendly neighbors. Life seems perfect for her, right? The simple answer is no. Just like all mothers of all races and social class, life hits them like a truck at times. Now, everyone knows that when a mother is stressed, mad, or sad, everyone else in the household is as well.
Now, stress if a funny thing. In fact, any type of negative feeling is a mysterious matter. They are almost like an incurable disease that can spread faster than chicken pox. Seeing a loved one stressed, sad, or angry can cause anyone around to reciprocate those same dreaded feelings. One can easily fall into sorrow and next thing you know, you are a few months behind in rent.
I don’t have a 3-Step Program or an online class on how to make your life better, but I do have something that can help and the answer is YOU. You are important, you are beautiful, and you have a reason to live. No matter what life places down at your feet, pick it up and keep moving. Be smart. Know when to take a break and have fun. Sing louder in the shower. Pet your dog longer. Hug your friends tighter. Love your loved ones even more. Cherish them, for they will cherish you. Bring something to this world, it desperately needs it. WE NEED YOU. Don’t hate and be happy because life can only get better from here.
